Woodbridge and the Suffolk Coast
Woodbridge
The River Deben flows through this lovely little town,
well known for its galleries, boutiques, book shops and tearooms. Suffolk's
own heavy horse, the Suffolk Punch, has a museum devoted to it in the Market
Place, and the sails of Buttrum's Mill, on the outskirts of the town, turn on
open days. Down by the river, there's the intimate little Riverside Theatre
showing all the latest films, working boatyards, and the Tide Mill right on the
waterside. Woodbridge is a busy little town, attracting shoppers from the
surrounding rural area, providing High and Primary schools, and supplying
employment in the thriving light industrial area. If you enjoy a meal and a
drink out, Woodbridge is the place to go! You'll be spoilt for choice with
the high standard of local food in the many ancient pubs, hotels and restaurants
that line the narrow streets and waterfront.
Coast and Countryside
The Suffolk coast: dunes and reedbeds, sand
and shingle beaches, forest and heathland, and wide, wide skies. The heathland and
forest are splendid at any time of year and provide perfect opportunities for
walking, cycling and horse riding. Places to visit include Snape Maltings on the River Alde, which houses the
world famous concert hall and has a wonderful selection of craft and art galleries, and
shops. Further inland, great fields of wheat and barley
stretch to the horizon and the pace of life might be slower than you're
accustomed to. The small towns and villages still maintain their traditional way
of life with local shops and markets. The village hall will often be the location
for plays and pantomimes, as well as farmers and markets.
